Osteopathy for mothers and babies

MOTHERS AND BABIES

Pregnancy

Osteopathy is ideal for use in pregnancy, it is a very safe and effective treatment that helps the body adapt to the immense changes which take place over the nine months of pregnancy. Treatment can help to relieve various aches and pains as the mothers' body tries to accommodate the growing baby.

Post pregnancy

After giving birth it is advisable to have a check up in order to make sure that the pelvis and low back have returned to their previously comfortable position, sometimes during labour the pelvis and low back can be injured and you may be left in discomfort or with restricted movement which can lead to various symptoms such as difficulty walking, sitting, lying, discomfort when breast feeding, straining on the toilet or during intercourse.

Babies

Some babies do not cope well with the process of birth, the strong pressures exerted in the birth canal can cause the nerve supply from the head and neck which may have an effect on feeding and digestion, leading to difficulties such as latching on, suckling or symptoms of colic. General tensions in the skull from difficult or traumatic births can keep the baby in an alert state so that the baby has trouble sleeping or just seems very unsettled and uncomfortable and finds it difficult to relax.

Osteopathy can help with:

Low back pain
Hip and pelvic pain
Neck and shoulder pain
Heartburn
Indigestion
SPD (symphysis pubis disorder)
Coccyx pain
Mid back pain due to breast feeding
Difficulty breathing comfortably
